Botox per unit or per area: which is the honest way to pay?
Two clinics quote the same price for your forehead. One injects 20 units, the other 12. Only one of those prices was honest.
The honest answer is a range, and the range depends on your muscle, your goal and whether your frown lines are treated at the same time.
Forehead lines are made by the frontalis, the muscle that lifts your brows. Typical doses run from 10 to 20 units for a first treatment. Lower if you want movement kept, higher if the lines are deep and the muscle is strong.
Here is the part clinics often skip. The frontalis is what holds your brows up. Treat it heavily without treating the frown muscles between the brows, and the brows can drop. Most good injectors treat the forehead and the frown lines together for that reason, which is why a full upper face is often 30 to 50 units rather than 15.
Age and muscle habit matter more than sex. Someone who has frowned at a screen for twenty years has a stronger corrugator than someone who has not. Your injector will ask you to frown, raise your brows and squint, and dose from what they see move.
A first treatment is deliberately conservative. You come back at two weeks, when the result is final, and a few units are added if you want more. That is not an upsell. It is how a natural result is built without guessing.
Results appear over three to seven days and last three to four months on the first round. People who treat regularly often find it lasts a little longer over time, because the muscle is used less.
